Firsty Review: We Tested Free eSIM Plan

When we first came across Firsty, they were running a campaign promoting the idea that internet access is a basic human right. That’s why they offer free data. Sounds great, right? Of course, there are a few catches. The data is limited, you need to watch ads—but it actually works.

We were intrigued by the concept and decided to test Firsty ourselves. Initially, the website was a bit confusing, but the app worked smoothly. Now, even the website is much more informative and user-friendly. So, is Firsty worth it? Let’s take a closer look in our Firsty review.

Free Data from Firsty

Data doesn’t grow on trees—you have to earn it. If you don’t want to pay for faster internet or you just need basic access for apps like WhatsApp, Messenger, Uber or email, you can use the free plan. But even “free” has to be paid for—by advertisers. And you pay with your attention. The more ads you watch, the more time online you get.

Watching your first ad gives you 6 hours of free internet (though at limited speed). After that, each additional ad gives you 30 more minutes. Ads can last up to 60 seconds. It’s a fair deal—and a great option if you want to test eSIMs or just need text-based connectivity.

What Firsty eSIM Offers

At first glance, Firsty may seem to have a limited offer. But once you realize you can customize your plan by combining different options, new possibilities open up.

Supported Countries

Firsty is available in over 160 countries and constantly expanding. There are no regional packages, but if you’re visiting multiple countries, you can add all of them into one plan.

Available Data Speeds

Unlike most providers offering 1, 3, 5, 10, or 20 GB plans, Firsty lets you choose your internet speed tier. There are three plans:

  • Firsty Free: Watch one ad to get 6 hours of free (limited speed) internet. Each additional ad gives you 30 more minutes. You can send messages, use Uber, or check emails, but no fast browsing.
  • Comfort+: The golden middle. Good for browsing, using maps, and streaming music. You get high-speed data up to 500 MB, then 1 GB at 1 Mbps. After that, speeds drop to Free plan level.
  • First Class: Need full-speed internet? Go for this plan. You can stream, tether, and enjoy fast speeds up to 5 GB, after which it drops to the lowest tier.

Plan Validity

Like most providers, Firsty lets you choose plans from 1 to 30 days. The difference? You can set the exact number of days, which can save you money.

How Much Does It Cost?

Firsty is one of the more affordable options out there, with plans starting from €1. Since you can adjust the speed and duration, you’ll find a setup that suits your budget.

Say you’re going somewhere for 10 days. Other providers might offer a 7-day pack or a 30-day 10 GB plan. With Firsty, you simply choose 10 days and pay only for what you need.

One thing to note: the advertised price (e.g., €1.50) often applies to the maximum duration. The more days you choose, the lower the average daily price.

Website & App

We remember earlier versions of Firsty.com, and we have to say—they’ve made huge improvements. The site is now faster and much easier to navigate.

Right on the homepage, you’ll see three speed plans (same for all countries). Then you choose the country (or multiple), pick your days, and get the exact price.

The app is similarly intuitive and fast, with all the key info displayed clearly.

Overall, we’re happy with the user experience—both on the web and in the app.

Some users might not like that registration requires both email and phone number.

How Easy Is It to Buy & Install the SIM?

Buying a plan is simple both on the website and in the app—but we definitely recommend the app. It lets you manage your plan and top up quickly.

To activate the Firsty Free plan, just install the eSIM and start watching ads. To buy data, go to “Upgrade Plan,” choose your country, pick a package, and proceed to payment.

You can pay with Apple Pay, Google Pay, credit/debit card, or AliPay.

Once done, you can install the eSIM and activate it anytime—even after you arrive at your destination. The setup process is guided step-by-step.

When registering via the website, your phone number and email are required (during checkout). We recommend registering via the app instead, where you can use your phone number, Google account, or Apple ID.

Can I Share Data via Hotspot?

Yes, Firsty supports hotspot sharing—but only with the First Class plan. If you want to share data with your laptop or a friend, you’ll need to go for the highest-tier plan. Comfort+ and Free plans don’t support it.

Referral Program & Discount Code

Firsty offers a $3 credit for referring friends. Simply send them your referral link. When they use it for their first purchase, they get a $3 discount, and you get $3 credit for your next purchase.

Customer Support

If you ever need help, Firsty offers 24/7 live chat support. A chatbot will respond first, but you can quickly switch to a human agent. In our case, the response was fast and helpful.

No complaints here—customer service works as expected for a tech provider.

Firsty Review: Final Thoughts

Looking for an eSIM to keep handy on your phone? Firsty is definitely worth considering. It’s perfect for sending a quick message, hailing an Uber, or just testing how eSIMs work—completely free. Or try full-speed internet for a few days before committing to a bigger plan.

We found Firsty easy to use, and the app worked fast. We tested the free plan in Thailand—after a short wait, apps like Messenger, Instagram, and WhatsApp worked just fine for text communication.

One small downside is that Firsty doesn’t tell you which mobile network you’re connected to. But that’s because it doesn’t stick to one—it automatically picks the best available network in your area, ensuring solid connectivity.

Pros

  • Free plan option
  • User-friendly website and app
  • 24/7 support
  • One eSIM for live

Cons

  • Watching ads and tracking remaining time on the free plan can be frustrating
  • No loyalty program

I have been travelling since I can remember. Currently I have visited a total of 45 countries. My wife and I run the blog lazytrip.eu, where we help people travel cheaper. We want to be online when we travel, so we have been exploring eSIM options for two years now. We try them everywhere on our trips outside the EU and write our observations on this blog.
