In the Global YO offer, you will find eSIMs for more than 200 countries, so you are unlikely to find a country that they don’t cover.

Besides eSIMs for individual countries, Global YO also offers a good range of regional plans, which are not just divided into Europe, Asia, and America like we see with other providers, but they also have packages like “Surfer Explorer” or “Digital Nomad” that cover a combination of countries where people go surfing or nomading.

Of course, there are also global plans. You can choose coverage for 52, 100, or 118 countries.

Data Volume

Global YO offers several data volume options that are sufficient for the average tourist. Usually, you will find eSIMs with 0.5 GB to 20 GB of data. Some packages can be purchased with up to 50 GB.

Recently, you can also find unlimited packages in some countries, but they are only available for 7 days.

If the chosen data amount is not enough, you can easily top up your eSIM through the app.

Prices

Price-wise, Global YO is an average among all eSIM providers. It always depends on the specific offer and the country. It can become a cheaper option when a discount pops up or when you use your collected YOYO$ points. Then you can get your eSIM for up to 50% off, making it a very attractive offer.

Validity

The validity of data packages ranges from 1 to 30 days, similar to other providers.

For 1 GB packages, you can choose between 1 day and 7 days validity, which is quite nice because if you only need data for a layover or one day, you can significantly reduce the cost.

The downside is that 3 to 5 GB packages are only valid for 15 days, not 30 as is common with competitors. Similarly, if you find unlimited data, it’s only for 7 days.

Website and Global YO App Overview

The website is only in English and Spanish, the app is only in English, but everything is well-organized and even those using eSIM for the first time can navigate it.

The app has several additional features like radio, movies, etc., which are not necessary for me, but why not. What I miss in the app are technical information about the eSIM, such as whether I can use a hotspot or what the connection speed will be. This information is only available on the website. Checking your eSIM status and topping up is fine and clear in the app.

Both the website and the app have well-crafted FAQ sections and a chatbot to help with more specific questions.

How Complicated is the Purchase and Installation of eSIM?

I recommend making the purchase directly in the app. You will see step-by-step instructions on how to install and activate the eSIM.

You can pay with card, Google Pay, or Apple Pay. Immediately after, you will receive a QR code in your email to complete the installation. If you don’t have a second device to scan the QR code from, you will also see two codes in the app to install the eSIM manually.

Can I Share Data via Hotspot?

One of the limitations of eSIM from Global YO is the inability to share data via hotspot. This information is only available on the website in the technical specifications for each country.

Calling Option with YO SHOUT

Global YO, unlike most eSIM providers, offers calling for an additional fee. You can activate the YO SHOUT service when purchasing the eSIM or later in your app.

Calls are made via VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol), so you need to be connected to the internet (Wi-Fi is enough). You must dial directly in the app and do not have a local phone number for someone to call you back. Only someone with the Global YO app and paid YO SHOUT service can call you. However, you can call anyone.

The advantage is that you can make calls even after your eSIM plan expires for up to 365 days until your credit runs out! And to anywhere in the world. When topping up call credit, you will see exactly how many minutes you can call to each country.

Global YO Loyalty Program

Global YO also got creative with their loyalty program. It works by collecting virtual points YOYO$ for registration, filling in personal information, referring a friend, time spent in the app, or various competitions (currently there is a dance battle where people record themselves dancing, and the one with the most votes wins YOYO$).

For every 100 collected YOYO$, you get $1 that you can use when purchasing. However, they cannot be applied to anything and get an eSIM for free. Each plan states how many points you can apply and what the max discount is – usually 10-20%, sometimes up to 50%.

Customer Support

Of course, we also tested customer support. The website has a large selection of frequently asked questions with answers, or you can ask the chatbot, which knows the answer to almost any question. However, it cannot always be relied upon.
