The cheapest packages

The cheapest option can be found at eSIM4Travel, where an eSIM with a 7-day validity costs $1.52.
A slightly more expensive eSIM can be found at MobiMatter, look for the “Europe and USA” package from Sparks. It costs $3.49, but it is valid for 14 days and allows you to connect in surrounding European countries as well.
Average data usage (5 GB)
Are you planning to stay in the Czech Republic for more than just a weekend? You might need more data.
The cheapest 5 GB package can again be found at eSIM4Travel, costing $5.99. We recommend also checking out the European package, which allows you to connect not only in the Czech Republic but also in other European countries, and is even a bit cheaper.
The “Europe and USA” package offered by MobiMatter also covers the Czech Republic and the whole of Europe. This costs $6.99. Both eSIMs are valid for 30 days.

Another option is MobiMatter and its “Europe and USA” package for $11.99. Both are valid for 30 days.
For comparison, the well-known Airalo offers a 10 GB eSIM with 50 minutes of calling for 30 days at $22. This eSIM is valid across the EU. You can purchase the same SIM card at the airport for the same price.
Unlimited data in Czech Republic
If you are a digital nomad, need a lot of data for work, or simply don’t like restrictions, there are also several offers with unlimited data.
The cheapest one can be purchased from eTravelSIM, where you can choose from a 7-day eSIM for $19.99, a 15-day for $39.99, or a 30-day for $59.99. For nearly the same prices you can also buy an eSIM for all of Europe, with extra 100 free minutes of calling (with a UK-based phone number +44). A disadvantage is that data can’t be shared via a hotspot.
If you want an eSIM that allows hotspot use, consider Yesim. Additionally, you will have a VPN included in the price. Prices are €23 for a 7-day eSIM, €43 for a 15-day, and €59 for a 30-day. This eSIM is valid only for the Czech Republic. Yesim also offers an European eSIM, but it is more expensive.
The last option we will show you is an eSIM from Holafly. We advise directly purchasing the eSIM for all of Europe because you can set the exact number of days and the prices are the same as if you had chosen only the Czech Republic. For comparison, you will pay $47 for 15 days, $69 for 30 days. With Holafly, you can also use a hotspot, but only up to 0.5 GB per day.

Tourist prepaid SIM card in Czech Republic
Are you wondering if there’s a cheaper option with a classic plastic SIM card in Czech Republic? Let’s take a look.
Mobile operators in Czech Republic
In the Czech Republic there are 3 main mobile operators – Vodafone, O2, and T-Mobile. In addition to these major operators, there are several virtual operators such as Kaktus, Blesk mobil, Sazkamobil, and Tesco mobil. All of them use the networks of one of the main operators.
Vodafone has the best coverage, while O2 has the worst. However, you will only notice this if you travel to the mountains or rural areas. Occasionally, you may also temporarily lose signal along train tracks. We have tried all three operators and are most satisfied with Vodafone. If you are interested in the coverage of each operator, here are the links:
Purchasing a prepaid SIM card
Purchasing a SIM card in the Czech Republic is very simple. You can find SIM cards at specialized stores of the three main operators, at gas stations, newsstands (e.g., Relay, GECO…), or supermarkets (e.g., Tesco). You will not need any identification document to buy it. Usually, to activate the SIM card, a phone restart is sufficient, or making the first call or sending an SMS.
If you want to get a SIM card at the airport, you need to visit a Relay newsstand. There are several of them, but just the one in the departure hall of the Terminal 2 is open 24/7. The Vodafone stand, which used to be at the airport, was closed on March 1, 2024.
Prices of prepaid SIM cards in Czech Republic
The prices for all tourist SIM cards are quite similar. Most operators offer 10 GB for 499 CZK (Vodafone offers 15 GB for this price, but realistically it’s 10 GB and an additional 5 GB after registering in their self-service). With most SIM cards, you will also get a few minutes of calls or SMS.
At the airport, you can also find these additional SIM cards:
- 3 GB + 100 minutes of calls and 25 SMS from O2 = 299 CZK
- 10+5 GB and unlimited calls within the Vodafone network from Vodafone = 249 CZK (so-called Gold card or Zlatá karta)
- Outside the airport, you can find other packages with less data, which in our opinion are not more advantageous. However, what can be more advantageous are SIM cards from virtual operators. But activating the card is more complicated, as you first have to buy the SIM card and then log into their self-service or send an SMS to select the data package. You will have to go through the process of registering on a website in Czech language, and you must be careful to ensure the package does not renew every month and deduct money from your card.
All these SIM cards are valid in all EU countries (and a few others, but not in Switzerland) for 30 days, after which they need to be recharged (or you can buy a new one).
Summary of eSIM Germany
eSIM offers many advantages, such as lower prices and the option to choose data packages covering all of Europe, including Switzerland, where data cannot be used with a Czech SIM card. You can also choose the exact amount of data from 1 GB to 50 GB, or even unlimited data packages.
On the other hand, with a classic prepaid SIM card, you will have a Czech phone number and often free minutes for calling. In the Czech Republic, however, this is not necessary because communication can be easily handled through apps like WhatsApp or Messenger. If you prefer a traditional prepaid SIM card, we recommend choosing the “Gold card” (or Zlatá karta) from Vodafone, which is more cost-effective than tourist cards with the same amount of data but double price. Both cards are valid throughout the EU, although this may not always be indicated on the package.
With an eSIM, you can connect to the internet immediately after crossing the border or landing on the runway, without having to find an open newsstand and swap SIM cards. If you decide on an eSIM, we recommend providers such as eSIM4Travel or MobiMatter, who offer the best packages at the most advantageous prices.
